I received a free copy of this book from The Good Book Company in exchange for an honest review.
Alistair Begg is an apt and important pastor for the contemporary Church, and his latest devotional book, Truth for Life: Volume 2 carries his succinct and passionate style. The work is compiled of short devotionals around 400-500 words - one for every day of the year. Each day’s message is based on a specific biblical passage; some follow on from the previous day, although most are presented arbitrarily. At the bottom of every page, Begg also shares some parts of scripture which when read consecutively would lead to a bible-in-a-year plan. In the devotions, Begg starts by considering the passage itself, before moving on to practical life application which is written to bless the believer’s day, and reach their hearts with God’s word.
As he does when he preaches, Begg presents the truth in love. He does not shy away from uncomfortable and convicting points. All the while, Begg glorifies Christ by sharing his word with compassion and care. Each day a delicate but powerful balance is found; theology, life application, and honest, spirit-led opinion are blended thoughtfully. The devotionals are engaging yet impactful, and Begg has written at good length by which his audience can stay focused, yet fit the reading into a busy life. Truth for Life: Volume 2 covers a huge number of topics relevant to the Christian life, and through the variety of passages and thoughts shared, God is sure to speak through Begg to every reader.
